Focus on Nonviolence
Attention: Due to the state of emergency with federal agents invading U.S. cities and all of the rest of the insanity that we are dealing with, Building Unity is putting our Webpage in “Emergency Mode.” All of our efforts are going into setting up a model of united creative nonviolent resistance in the area of Madison, WI. Click here to read more. Thank you.
In this past year we have seen:
- U.S. Federal Agents murdering peaceful protesters,
- U.S. conducting extrajudicial killings in international waters,
- Acts of war without Congressional approval
- Violence to peaceful protesters and others
- Family separations and traumatic treatment of families with children
- Threatening other countries, kidnapping heads of state, and destabilizing U.S standing in the world,
- The escalated support for corporations and members of the billionaire class as costs for basic needs like food, housing, and healthcare continue to rise for working people.
- The Supreme Court has given the President full immunity.
It is time to get organized and ready for nonviolent action.
It is time for the people to rise up!
Building Unity is working to get the Madison, Wisconsin community united, organized, trained, and ready to respond with nonviolent action. We have pulled together many of our partners to create a coalition – Building Unity for Nonviolent Action.
Please review the links below. Feel free to copy any of these materials and use them as models for what you might do to help organize in your community. We are starting to schedule nonviolent trainings and plan to scale-up the number of people who are trained and ready to engage in the powerful practice of nonviolence. You can find our upcoming training sessions and other events promoting nonviolent action on our “Events” page.
Our monthly Building Unity Gatherings (monthly gatherings for people, peace, & planet currently happening in Madison and Milwaukee, are now dedicating much of their program time towards discussing our need for nonviolent and creative resistance to I.C.E and other Federal Agents. Building Unity is a project that seeks to create a number of smaller projects that groups and individuals who work for peace, justice, sustainability, and democracy can share. Our goal is for the number of these projects to grow and for many of them to weave together and support each other. Some of the unity building projects that we list below are in an active state, while others are either in a state of dormancy, in very early stages or are yet to get started. If you have interest in learning more about any of the projects listed below, or if you would like to add a project to this list, please call Building Unity at 608-630-3633
Building Unity Gatherings
We are working at this time to encourage and support people everywhere to create what we are calling “Building Unity Gatherings” (BUG’s) within their communities.
Ideally these gatherings:
- Occur on a regular scheduled basis
- Are as diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible as possible
- Are “Family Friendly”
- Provide space for people who want to promote peace, justice, sustainability, and democracy to share information, ideas, fellowship, and opportunities to collaborate.
More information about this project can be found on our frequently updated Building Unity Gatherings Information Page: https://tinyurl.com/BUGatherings. If you would like help starting a Building Unity Gathering in your community, or, if you like to list an already existing gathering in our directory of such gatherings, please call Building Unity at 608-630-3633. “Building Unity Opportunities” Page:
