What is Building Unity?

Building Unity connects individuals and organizations who are working for peace, justice, sustainability, and democracy. Our core belief is that by aligning our diverse gifts and working together rather than in isolation, we can discover the synergistic power needed to create meaningful social change. Learn more

The 4 Pillars of Our Unity Movement

Peace:

  • Redirecting resources away from funding war machines 
  • Investing in diplomacy, peacebuilding, and meeting essential human needs both domestically and globally
  • Reducing gun violence through comprehensive gun law reforms

Justice:

  • Advancing comprehensive justice and human rights for all
  • Ensuring equal protections and opportunities regardless of race, gender, or any form of discrimination
  • Achieving economic justice with living wages and universal access to healthcare, housing, education, and nutrition
  • Implementing compassionate immigration reform grounded in gratitude for immigrants’ contributions

Sustainability:

  • Taking urgent environmental action that appropriately addresses the climate emergency
  • Understanding that environmental sustainability is essential for our collective future and the wellbeing of generations to come

Democracy:

  • Strengthening democracy through restored voting rights protection
  • Securing fair voting districts
  • Eliminating the influence of big money in electoral politics
  • Building real participatory democracy in the U.S.

Building Unity in the Fall and Winter of 2025-2026

Building Unity Gatherings (BUGs)

We’re facilitating monthly gatherings in Milwaukee and Madison where people committed to social justice, peace, and environmental sustainability can connect, share resources, and collaborate.

How BUGs Work: These community meetings help activists and organizers find each other, exchange information, and explore working together on shared goals.

Start a BUG in Your Community: All you need is a meeting space and a few people willing to show up and welcome others. We’ll help you get started. Imagine what a powerful boost it would be for our movement if hundreds of groups united in creating monthly community gatherings where people who are for people, peace, and our planet could find each other, share information, resources, and support; and explore many of the possibilities of collaboration.
