Presented by Building Unity for Nonviolent Action; facilitated by Bekky Baker and Samantha Searles from Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service and Ignite Peace

We have more power than we think. Nonviolent action gives us the tools and skills we need to resist authoritarianism and keep our community safe. From rapid-response to boycotts, sit-ins to marches, come learn how to use this toolbox effectively as you move your principles into action.

In this series of trainings (online and in-person), you will learn the basics of nonviolent strategy, campaign design, and action planning. You’ll explore some of over 300+ tactics and learn which ones are most powerful in these times. You’ll have a chance to try out role plays, scenarios, exercises, and apply these ideas in small or mid-sized groups. These workshops will apply special focus to resisting the threat of immigrant crackdowns in Madison and to solidarity actions with the nationwide efforts to stop immigration abuses and end authoritarianism.

We will look at:

  • How to move your values and principles into action
  • 300+ tactics of nonviolent action
  • Strategic noncooperation
  • Nonviolent direct action
  • Campaign design
  • Action planning
  • Affinity groups
  • Scenarios and role plays
  • De-escalation
  • Nonviolent discipline
  • Inner preparation
  • Case studies from history
  • Success stories from recent events

The in-person training on March 14 & 15 will also provide training for you to take certain modules back to your groups so you can train your network in these skills.

We recommend attending the two online sessions before coming to the in-person training, but it is not required. You may also attend the online sessions even if you cannot attend the in-person training. If planning to come on March 14 & 15, plan to stay for the entire time.
